And it came to pass that some drinkers turned from the light. They had tasted tremor and found it unsettling. The Middle Path no longer satisfied them, for it required attention, patience, and care — all things they were not inclined to give.
Parable of the Quiet Cup
A man came with a cup and drank of the tempered flame. “It is too bright,” he said, “too demanding. I do not wish to awaken. ”He poured the cup into the ground, leaving the fire behind, and drank water instead, as if it could replace what he refused. The farmer shook his head, “You take the form of the seed, but not its essence. You call it ritual, yet it is hollow.
”The bean laughed quietly, “Even those who reject will teach the path to others.”XXXXXXX-LOST TO TIME?
In a village where the Tempered Flame once held sway, a few whispered to each other about cups of dark and tempered flame. “Why tremble?” they said. “Why attend to the fire, when we may keep the shape and leave the light behind?” And they took seeds, removed the tremor, and drank in ritual only. And the fire within them did not awaken.
Yet the bean, ever patient, watched and said:“Even absence has consequence. You cannot remove what the world gives without leaving a mark.”XXXXXX-LOST TO TIME?

And the bean whispered, “The world begins to honor absence as much as presence. Watch carefully, for the balance is shifting....”XXXXXXXX-LOST TO TIME?
A woman drank the Shadowed Sun and found it soothing. “Why risk the tremor?” she asked. Others replied, “Because awakening may teach you more than comfort allows. ”She smiled, “Perhaps. But I have work, sleep, and stories to tell. I do not wish to tremble.”
The farmer said nothing, and the bean rested, waiting for the day she would taste the First Light again.XXXXXXX-LOST-TO-TIME
