Now from the Naturals, there grew from the ground a seed, small and easily overlooked, yet capable of awakening many. And when its effect was noticed, a murmuring began. Some said ,“The seed carries light. ”Others said, “The light merely passes through it. ”Others said, “The effect is imagined, and you should rest.”
The merchants asked how it might be moderated. The scholars asked how it might be isolated. The administrators asked how it might be made safe. And so they learned to preserve the form while quieting the effect. And this solution spread quickly, for it required no change in posture. The farmers said little. They had seen the seed respond differently when the ground beneath it was alive.
And this was the third truth:that which awakens will always be asked to soften itself.
